How do tax advisors and accountants use Crypto Tax?

The short answer

A tax advisor or accountant opens a Crypto Tax account that goes through a short verification, adds clients to it, individuals or companies, who need no account of their own, and generates a capital gains report for each from the office’s single balance of tax year reports.

In brief

Opening an account
A short verification on WhatsApp, usually approved the same business day
Signing in
With an authenticator app, required before managing clients
Clients
Individuals and companies, with no limit on how many
An account for the client
Not needed, and the client does not sign in
Tax year reports
One balance for the office, one report per client tax year
The representative’s own filing
Managed as one of the clients
The form 1399 appendix
Carries the representative’s name, number and license number

How do you open an account?

When signing up, you choose a tax advisor or accountant account and give a phone number. After signing up, Crypto Tax sends a WhatsApp message to that number for a short verification, and the account is usually approved the same business day.

You can sign in to the account during the review. Client management opens once the account is approved and an authenticator app is connected, and from then on signing in takes the app’s code instead of an emailed one.

How do clients work?

A client is a full record created inside the tax advisor’s or accountant’s account, as an individual or a company. The client has no email or password and does not sign in: importing, calculating and generating reports are all done from the representative’s account.

For each client you import history by uploading files or connecting an API key, exactly as on a personal account, and the calculation is the same. A client set as a company is calculated at that tax year’s corporate rate and gets form 1399(ח), and the client’s type is locked once their first report is generated.

You can add your own columns to the client list, such as a status, a date or a note, and manage your work by them. The column layout is saved on the account.

How are tax year reports used?

The office has one balance of tax year reports, which serves every client. One report unlocks one tax year for one client, whichever the office chooses, and there is no limit on the number of clients on the account.

Tax advisors and accountants buy tax year reports at the same prices as individuals and companies, and the prices are in the question on what a capital gains report costs.

The tax advisor’s or accountant’s own filing is managed as a client marked “This client is me”, through the same process and from the same balance.

What appears on a client’s report?

For every client and every tax year, form 1399 is produced with an appendix setting out every sale, along with a summary PDF and a CSV file. According to the notes to form 1399(י), a worksheet setting out the calculations must be attached, and the appendix is made for that.

The appendix carries the representative’s name, representative number and CPA or tax advisor license number, as set in the account settings. An individual reports on an annual return on form 1301, and a company on form 1214.

A client who wants to view their own data opens a regular Crypto Tax account. A client cannot be moved from the office’s account to a personal one.
