What does the Crypto Tax report include, and who files it?

The short answer

For every tax year Crypto Tax produces a completed form 1399 with an appendix setting out every sale, a summary PDF and a CSV of every trade, and the filing with the Tax Authority is done by the filer or their tax advisor or accountant.

What is on form 1399 and its appendix?

The form is the Tax Authority’s official form for the tax year: 1399(י) for an individual and 1399(ח) for a company. Crypto Tax fills in the year’s amounts and the ID number (or company number) and file number the filer entered in the account settings, so a report can’t be generated before an ID or company number is entered.

The form is followed by an appendix in Hebrew, with one row per sale: date, coin, exchange, quantity, the exchange and date of the purchase, proceeds, cost, nominal gain, inflationary amount, real gain or loss, and the index at sale and at purchase. According to the notes to form 1399(י), a worksheet setting out the calculations must be attached, and the appendix is made for that.

Where futures or options positions were closed that year, they are set out on additional pages. On the report of a client managed by a tax advisor or accountant, the appendix also carries the representative’s name and number, as set on the account.

What is in the summary PDF and the CSV files?

The summary PDF is one page in English, with the total proceeds and gains, the net real gain, the tax estimate and a table by coin.

The CSV file has one row for every match between a sale and a purchase, with the sale and purchase dates, the coin, the proceeds, the cost, the gain or loss, the index-adjusted cost, the inflationary amount, the real gain and the number of days held. In a year with income from rewards, a separate income CSV is produced as well.

Who files the report with the Tax Authority?

Crypto Tax submits nothing to the Tax Authority. The report is filed by the filer themselves or by their tax advisor or accountant.

An individual files an annual return on form 1301, in which form 1399(י) is part of the online submission. A company files an annual return on form 1214, with form 1399(ח).

Alongside the annual return, section 91(ד) of the Income Tax Ordinance requires reporting every sale within 30 days and paying an advance. The detail is in the question on how to report crypto gains to the Tax Authority.

What happens when more data comes in after the report is generated?

Once a tax year is unlocked, its report can be generated again as often as needed at no extra cost, after importing another exchange, for example. Every generation creates a new report that replaces the previous one.

The report does not update on its own when transactions are added, so after every import that touches the year, you generate it again.
